**10 to 20 hours per week

This individual provides short-term care for children and youth up to the age of 18. In some cases the service can extend to the age of 21, if the SED diagnosis was determined prior to the age of 18. Behavioral Health Respite qualifications are determined through a diagnostic assessment and directed via the treatment plan. The goal of Behavioral Health Respite is to encourage sustained community-based care by providing relief to the primary caregivers of eligible participants. Behavioral Health Respite services include a range of activities to meet the social, emotional, and physical needs of clientele. Respite services are limited to 30 days or 720 hours per year. While Behavioral Health Respite can be provided on an unplanned basis, as a best practice Behavioral Health Respite should be scheduled in advance in order to provide regular planned breaks for caregivers. Respite services may occur in the client’s place of residence or in another setting. When respite services are provided in the home, then the client’s guardian is also required to be available and on the premises. Behavioral Health Respite is provided during agency hours of operation. If respite services are desired outside of those times, then the respite provider should discuss the client and family’s wishes with their supervisor and negotiate an appropriate schedule.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with target population;
  • Pass all criminal records and background checks;
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, current vehicle registration, and insurance if transporting member;
  • Must maintain current CPR/1st Aid certification; and
  • Experience with documentation of behavioral health orientation such us member rights, confidentiality, behavioral health symptoms, substance use symptoms, managing safety, and protecting member’s dignity and choice.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide culturally sensitive services.
  • Knowledge of Windows environment and/or Electronic Health Records systems.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical: Ability to drive, legible penmanship.
  • Mental: Ability to deal with emotional and/or stressful situations.
  • Environmental: Most work is performed in the client’s home.
